Texas got its first Tennessee Walt sighting this past Sunday, Feb. 21, when Walt was a featured guest artist in Gilbert & Sullivan and Me, a lecture/concert presented by noted Gilbert & Sullivan expert Gayden Wren under the auspices of the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Austin.
An appreciative audience of Savoyards found a bit of G&S in the heart of country when Walt performed “I’ve Been Everywhere,” the classic patter song written by Geoff Mack and popularized by Hank Snow. Walt left the stage to resounding applause.
The trip was a brief one, but did allow for a once-over-lightly tour of Austin, including a driveby of the famous Willie Nelson statue downtown and dinner at Threadgill’s, the country-themed restaurant once frequented by Janis Joplin and Jerry Lee Lewis.
